The ImPACT Test is computerized and takes about 25 minutes to complete. ImPACT recommends that it be administered by an ImPACT trained psychologist, such as the experts here at DAIC. Baseline tests are suggested every two years.
If a concussion is suspected, the baseline report will serve as a comparison to a repeat ImPACT test, which professionals can use to assess potential changes or damage caused by a concussion.
The management of concussions should only be conducted by trained medical professionals.
Concussions are a sad fact of life for many children; especially when active in sports. Head injuries are on the rise for athletes at all levels of play. An estimated 4 to 5 million concussions occur annually, with increases emerging among middle school athletes. But now athletes and others have a new tool in safely dealing with these traumatic brain injuries. It’s called Baseline and Post Concussive Assessment and DAIC is offering this testing for children aged 10 and up.
“For the first time I have a tool to use in concussion management that allows me to see how the brain is functioning and make a better determination of when it is safe to participate in sports again.”

The problem today is that when an athlete suffers a concussion on the field, it is sometimes hard to assess how severe the damage is; and most importantly when, and even if, that injured person should get back into the game. Physicians, coaches, trainers and parents can now do better than rely on global guideline based concussion management (standard tests for a generalized population). Now, using a short 20-minute test developed by the renowned ImPACT Applications group, anyone can have a pre-season baseline assessment preformed. It measures multiple aspects of cognitive functioning in athletes, including:
• Attention span
• Working memory
• Sustained & selective attention time
• Response variability
• Non-verbal problem solving
• Reaction time
Then, if a concussion is suspected, a post-injury test is administered and compared to the baseline assessment to help determine a treatment plan. This “individualized testing” component is the key to greater insight into the severity of the injury, and is the medically accepted state-of-the-art, best practices way to determine “safe return to play” decisions.
Many MLB, NHL, NFL and WWE teams use this concussion evaluation system, as well as more than 7400 high schools and 1000 colleges and universities. The expert, licensed psychologists at DAIC are specially trained to administer the ImPACT concussion evaluation system.
