Speech and Language Therapy is the usual treatment for most children with a speech and/or language disorder. If your child is having difficulty in school or at home with pronouncing certain sounds, or understanding or putting together words, you should seek out a formal assessment.
And the sooner the better; children who start early, before 5, often have better outcomes than those who begin later because they haven’t learned as many bad habits that will need to be changed.
Good speech and language skills are vital to every child’s natural development. DAIC offers the best cutting-edge testing regimens available today. After the initial assessment to tease out the specific problems your child might be having, one of our licensed, experienced, ASHS certified speech and language therapists will create a plan to remediate the situation.
Remediation in speech & language therapy is usually done on a weekly basis, one-on-one and may include a variety of strategies such as: Language Intervention Activities where the therapist will interact by playing and talking and using repetitive exercises to model and stimulate language development and correct pronounciation; Articulation Therapy to increase the child’s awareness of specific sound production and correct small problems early, and demonstrate proper mouthing techniques; and Oral-Motor Therapy which uses a variety of oral exercises including tongue, lip and jaw exercises to strengthen muscles of the mouth.
Our therapeutic intervention works for children of all ages, 1 and up and can be critical to your child’s future success.

Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is widely recognized as the most effective method to affect positive change in a person’s attitude and behavior. It’s a short-term form of psychotherapy used to help both adults and children. The focus is on current issues, symptoms and solutions. Weekly therapy sessions are the norm in addition to daily “exercises” designed to help the patient apply newly learned skills at home, in school or at work.
CBT is also among the most rapid forms of therapy in terms of results. The fundamental principle is that thoughts cause our feelings and behaviors, but they can be changed for the better.
Cognitive-behavioral therapists at DAIC create a good, trusting relationship with clients, and help them learn rational self-counseling skills. Clients are able to change their troubling issues or behavior because they learn how to think differently and act on that learning. The therapist listens, then teaches and encourages positive thought patterns and fresh coping strategies.
Specific techniques and concepts are taught during each session and the focus is on each client’s specific goals. We help change negative perceptions and attitudes, and instill more positive proactive approaches to stressful situations. The goal of therapy is to help clients unlearn their unwanted behavior and to learn a new, more positive way.
Our therapeutic intervention works for individuals of all ages, as well as couples, families, and groups.
